![]() ![]() It is thought that over time, these types of card games became more popular and eventually, someone came up with a variation that eventually became known as Skyjo. Whoever bid highest would get to keep the card and the team with the most points at the end of play would win. In this game, players would divide up into two teams and then take turns bidding on cards. The first documented use of the word ‘Skyjo’ was in a German card game called ‘Skat’, which was first published in 1810. Some believe that the word originated in Japan, while others think it was derived from an old Norse word meaning ‘to play’ or ‘to gamble’. The origin of this word is a bit of a mystery as no one is quite sure where it came from. The word ‘Skyjo’ has been around for centuries but it wasn’t until recently that it began to be used in the card game of the same name.
